On September 18, an Express Entry draw for the
Trade Category was held.
đ Key details of this draw:
September 18 (Trade Category)
• ✅ Cut-off score: 505
• ✅ Number of ITAs issued:
1,250
This was the first Trade Category draw in 2025. The
previous draw for this occupational group was on October 23, 2024, when the CRS
cut-off was much lower at 433. A cut-off of 505 is considered quite high for
Trade Category candidates, yet one of GS’s clients successfully received an ITA
with a CRS score of 510.
The main reason for the higher CRS cut-off this
time is that a significant gap between draws allowed more candidates to
accumulate in the pool.
This draw marks the sixth Express Entry draw just
in September. So far in 2025, IRCC has issued a total of 65,489 ITAs through
the Express Entry system.
This year, draws have primarily focused on
PNP-specific rounds, with the remainder allocated to CEC, French-language
proficiency candidates, and priority occupational categories under Express
Entry.
Breakdown of draw types in the first half of 2025:
• PNP: 17 rounds
• CEC: 9 rounds
• French proficiency: 5 rounds
• Healthcare and Social Services: 4 rounds
• Education: 2 rounds
• Trades: 1 round
According to recent government news, IRCC expects
to issue 3,300 ITAs to Trade Category candidates in 2025. This means an
additional 2,050 ITAs could still be issued in this category by year’s end.
However, as today’s draw shows, if the intervals
between category-specific draws are long, CRS cut-offs inevitably rise, even if
more ITAs are issued. Therefore, how quickly the remaining ~2,000 ITAs for the
Trade Category are distributed will determine whether candidates can
realistically expect more attainable cut-off scores.
