πŸ“’ 24.11.7 AAIP draw – AOS with Construction field occupations

Alberta’s Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has undergone significant changes to its draw system, particularly since October.

Transition to EOI System

AAIP has adopted an Expression of Interest (EOI) system. The first draw targeting the Tourism and Hospitality Stream (THS) was held on October 15th. The passing score was a notably high 70 points.

Subsequent Draws

November 4th: Draws were held separately for candidates registered and not registered in the Express Entry (EE) pool for the Health Care Pathway.

November 7th: A draw was conducted for AOS candidates, focusing on specific occupations, primarily in the construction sector.

November 7th Draw Details

Cut-off score: 50 points

ITAs issued: 187

Eligibility requirements:

EOI score of 50 points or above

Expression of interest in AOS, RRW, or THS upon registration

CLB 5 or higher language proficiency

Minimum 12 months of work experience

Valid work permit (expiration date after November 15, 2024)

Full-time job offer from an AB employer in occupations such as electrical supervisor, carpenter, heavy equipment operator, welder, electrician, plumber, cabinetmaker, or tilesetter.

Candidates who had not created an EE profile were eligible.

For more detailed information, including a complete list of occupations included in this draw, please refer to Table 11 on the https://www.alberta.ca/aaip-processing-information page.

Competitive Landscape

As you can see from the AAIP EOI scoring system, achieving even 50 points is challenging. Currently, there is a significant number of candidates registered in the AAIP EOI pool. As of November 7th, a total of 32,407 individuals have registered, with 20,896 specifically expressing interest in AOS. Given that only 187 ITAs were issued at a cut-off score of 50 points, it's evident that this is a highly competitive process.

Recommendations

Rather than feeling discouraged by a lower score, it's more productive to recognize the competitive nature of the program and focus on improving your score. Every point counts in this highly competitive environment.

AAIP is expected to continue experimenting with its EOI system throughout the remainder of the year before implementing a more defined EOI selection process in the following year.
