Changes in the New EE Category Base Content

The immigration website has been updated without any announcement.

This update pertains to the category-based selection of EE.

As of today (February 27), the page has been updated. It appears that this year's EE Category-Base selection will proceed with the following six categories:

  1. French-language proficiency – same as last year
  2. Healthcare and social services occupations – there are changes in the occupations.
  3. STEM – there are changes in the occupations.
  4. Trade occupations – appears to be the same as last year
  5. Agriculture and agri-food occupations – appears to be the same as last year
  6. Education occupations – a new category this year, attracting much interest.

You can check this information at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/rounds-invitations/category-based-selection.html.

The Transport Category from last year is not included this year.

Additionally, there are some changes in the categories from last year:

Healthcare and social services occupations

The traditional Chinese medicine practitioner (acupuncturist) from last year has been excluded this year.

Instead, Pharmacy Assistants (NOC 33103), Pharmacy Technicians (NOC 32124), and Health Care Assistants (NOC 33102) are included.

These positions are worth considering if you have graduated from the relevant college and meet the EE qualifications.

STEM occupations

Most of IT-related jobs that were heavily included last year have been excluded. Instead, occupations related to civil engineering and electrical engineering are included.

Trade occupations

In addition to occupations like Cabinetmakers (NOC 72311) and Carpenters (NOC 72310), Cooks (NOC 63200) are also included.

Education occupations

This is a newly included category this year, and it is noteworthy that ECE (NOC 62202) is included.

These positions will be selected separately in the category-based selection, and therefore, it is highly likely that they will be selected with lower cut-off scores than the general EE cut-off scores. Hence, it is worth setting new goals.

Looking at the immigration trends of the past 1-2 years, it seems to create confusion and make people preparing for immigration feel lost. However, from a longer-term perspective, it can be seen that the occupations that have been consistently expressed as lacking in Canada are becoming easier to immigrate to in the long run, even if they become easier or harder within 1-2 years.

Therefore, rather than being confused by the difficulty this year or next year and changing direction to an easier area, it is better to set long-term goals and steadily build your career, as this will open the door to Canadian permanent residency.

Some people change their plans whenever immigration regulations are changed. There are also people who give up immediately because it was good last year but difficult this year.

However, those who consistently follow one path and approach the language requirements demanded by Canada more diligently eventually find a good path opening up.

Among those who inquire about category-based selection, some categories require 6 months of experience within the last 3 years. In this case, there are people who try to proceed with 6 months of experience without meeting the EE qualifications, but this is a wrong judgment.

The basis of category-based selection is EE. In other words, you must meet the EE qualifications.

Especially regarding work experience, for the FSW immigration program of EE, you must have at least 1 year of continuous full-time work experience in the priority occupation within the last 10 years.

For CEC, you must have at least 1 year of full-time work experience in Canada within the last 3 years.

For FST, you must have at least 2 years of full-time work experience in the relevant occupation within the last 5 years to qualify for EE.

Caregiver Immigration Program Details Announced

The IRCC has announced details about the new Caregiver Immigration Program (Home Care Worker Immigration Pilots) starting this year. However, we still need to wait a bit longer for more specific information.

Here are the details that have been announced so far:

The start date is March 31st (no changes).

Language and education requirements remain unchanged (CLB4, high school diploma or higher).

Experience (does not have to be Canadian experience).

At least 6 months of recent relevant experience (how recent is not specified yet).

Or

Completion of at least 6 months of related home care training. (exact credentials required are not specified yet).

Must receive a full-time job offer outside of Quebec.

Employer selection (this part is more flexible than before).

Private households

Or

Organizations that directly hire hull-time workers to provide short-term or occasional home care for those who are semi-independent or recovering from an injury or illness.

However, recruitment-related companies are not included.

At the bottom of the web page, there is a kit to check eligibility requirements:

Is your language score CLB or NCLC 4 or higher?

Do you have a high school diploma or higher (education credential required)?

Do you have at least 6 months of relevant experience or a certificate from a relevant educational institution?

Do you have a full-time job offer?

These are the four main requirements.

For candidates who are not yet working as caregivers in Canada, do not prepare for this immigration program yet. Detailed information for these candidates will be announced soon.

We recommend that those interested in this immigration program continue to pay attention to announcements from the immigration office.

📢 Alberta AAIP Draw Results Announced

Alberta, which processed a total of 9,942 PNP cases in 2024, has been allocated only 4,875 cases for this year, representing a 50% reduction. This reduction is consistent across all provinces, each receiving approximately half of their previous allocation. While there's potential for future negotiations with the federal government, Alberta's AAIP is proactively responding and progressing despite these challenges.

Selections for four streams were conducted from February 12th to 19th. Here's a breakdown:

February 12th: ABEE – Accelerated Tech Pathway

Cut-off Score: 67

NOI (Notifications of Interest): 63

This marks the first selection for the Accelerated Tech Pathway this year. It's the fastest processing stream within the AAIP, ideal for those working in tech-related positions in Alberta and eligible under Express Entry.

February 14th: AOS – Construction

Cut-off Score: 61

NOI: 88

Targeted candidates with construction occupations who registered under the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS).

February 18th: Dedicated Health Care Pathway – EE

Cut-off Score: 47

NOI: 32

February 19th: Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Non-EE

Cut-off Score: 51

NOI: 9

Alberta's Health Care selections consistently include both Express Entry (EE) and non-EE candidates. As seen from the scores and numbers, EE eligibility significantly enhances your chances.

While Alberta's provincial nominations remain relatively active compared to other provinces, the number of invitations issued is noticeably lower than when the program began.

Congratulations!! 🎉🎉

🚩Timeline

Submission: January 20, 2025

This client’s current work permit was about to expire. Based on the employer's LMIA support, they submitted the work permit application online again, and it was approved in just 37 days!

In fact, the government’s processing time information indicates that the process for extending a work permit takes 117 days, but this case received results very quickly. Therefore, if you request GS for a quick work permit process based on this case, GS cannot guarantee the same result again.

However, this case is undoubtedly good news for GS’s client and employer.

For successful immigration to Canada, you need experts who can quickly respond to continuous changes.

We will guide you to permanent residency quickly with the most accurate judgment for each client's situation.

MPNP Selection on Feb 20. (Seems Difficult)

The provincial immigration programs of each province in Canada have been allocated only 50% compared to last year. As a result, the PNP progress in each province is either halted or proceeding slowly at this time.

MPNP processed 9,540 cases in 2024, but only 4,750 cases have been allocated in 2025.

On the 20th, MPNP conducted four draws this year, but the number of LAAs (Letters of Advice to Apply) issued so far is almost the same as the number issued in January last year, which is about 50% of last year's level.

Considering this, the selection criteria have become very detailed compared to the past.

There are two streams selected this time.

First, the International Education Stream. 19 people received invitations, and the conditions are very strict.

Both of the following requirements must be met:

  1. Must have graduated from a post-secondary institution with a master's degree or higher in Manitoba.
  2. Must have a close relative who is a permanent resident or citizen of Manitoba, has lived in Manitoba for more than a year, and currently resides there.

Both conditions must be satisfied to be eligible.

The second announced stream is the Skilled Worker Overseas Stream.

This targets workers in occupations that Manitoba considers to be in shortage and who are invited by recruiters strategically selected by Manitoba while working overseas.

For those selected and proceeding with cases in this year's PNP, it will be a very valuable period. However, for most people aiming for Canadian permanent residency, it is a time to 'take a break and prepare,' understanding and preparing for immigration trends.

Additionally, it should be a period to broadly check and search for information related to Canadian permanent residency.
