In 2024, Alberta conducted a total of 9,942 cases
of PNP, but this year, only 4,875 cases, which is 50% of last year's, have been
allocated. All provinces have been allocated only half of last year's cases.
While there is room for negotiation with the federal government in the future,
AAIP has announced the first selection of this year.
From February 3 to 6, selections were made for
three streams.
On February 3, the Rural Renewal Stream, which had
not been selected even once in 2024, was selected for the first time. The
passing score was 68 points, and a total of 190 invitations were issued.
As emphasized by the federal government, this year,
immigration will focus on small towns and regions that need population inflow
due to their smaller populations, and the positions needed in each region.
Therefore, AAIP is likely to select many candidates for the RRS (Rural Renewal
Stream).
On February 5 and 6, selections were made for the
Dedicated Health Care Pathway. On the 5th, a total of 70 invitations were
issued to candidates with EE profiles, and the passing score was 52 points.
On the 6th, the same selection was made for
candidates without EE profiles, and a total of 48 invitations were issued, with
a passing score of 50 points.
All provincial governments are contemplating
whether to proceed with PNP at 50% of last year's level, as allocated by the
federal government, or to negotiate with the federal government to receive more
humanitarian immigration cases and proceed with a higher overall PNP level.
Last week, Newfoundland and Labrador negotiated
with the federal government to accept 290 humanitarian immigrants over two
years, receiving a similar level of PNP allocation as last year. It is expected
that this move may influence other provinces.
